• Check the Care Label

    • Before washing, always check the garment tag.
    • If it says “dry clean only”, the item may not be suitable for water handwashing. Consider professional cleaning instead to avoid damage.
  • Prepare the Wash

    • Fill a basin or sink with cool or lukewarm water.
    • Add a small amount of mild detergent and mix gently.
  • Submerge the Knit

    • Place your hand-knit item in the water.
    • Gently press it down to soak; avoid stretching or wringing.
  • Gently Wash

    • Lightly swish the knit around in the water.
    • Focus on areas that need extra cleaning by pressing gently with your hands.
    • Do not scrub, twist, or wring the fabric.
  • Rinse

    • Drain the soapy water and refill with clean, cool water.
    • Submerge and gently press the knit to rinse out soap.
    • Repeat until water runs clear.
  • Remove Excess Water

    • Carefully lift the knit out of the water.
    • Press gently (don’t wring) to remove water.
    • Lay the knit flat on a clean towel, roll it up, and gently press to absorb remaining moisture.
  • Dry Flat

    • Lay the item on a dry towel or drying rack, reshaping it to its original dimensions.
    • Keep it away from direct heat or sunlight.
    • Allow it to dry completely before storing or wearing.

Note:

  • Wash only when necessary to maintain shape and softness.
  • Use a mesh bag for very delicate or intricate knits.
  • Always follow yarn label instructions — some fibers like angora, silk, or specialty blends may need extra care.
